Already own a Quest 2? Here's whether the Quest 3 upgrade is worth your money.

What the Quest 3 adds

Versus the Quest 2, the Quest 3 brings a much faster XR2 Gen 2 chip (roughly double the graphics power), sharper pancake lenses, higher resolution, a wider field of view and proper full-colour mixed reality with a depth sensor. It's a substantial generational leap.

Will you notice the difference?

Yes — immediately. Games look crisper, the lenses are clearer with a wider sweet spot, and colour passthrough opens up mixed-reality experiences the Quest 2 simply can't run. Demanding new titles increasingly target the Quest 3's extra power.

When to skip the upgrade

If you mostly play a handful of older games like Beat Saber and you're happy, the Quest 2 still does the job. Save your money until a must-have Quest 3 exclusive or a great sale tempts you.

Our take

If VR is a regular part of your life, the Quest 3 upgrade is worth it for the lenses and mixed reality alone. If you're a casual player content with your current library, there's no rush — but the gap will keep widening.
