What to expect
Most Quest headsets last around two hours or a little more on a charge, less for graphically heavy games and more for light media. Check Meta's specifications for your exact model. The battery is small because the headset has to stay light on your face — it's a deliberate trade-off.
Settings that save power
Lower the display brightness, drop the refresh rate from 120Hz to 90Hz, turn off the controllers when not in use, and reduce the volume. Each helps a little, and together they meaningfully extend a session.
Play while charging
You can play plugged in. Use a long USB-C cable and a good wall charger to play indefinitely for seated experiences, or a power bank clipped to your strap for room-scale freedom.
Battery straps
A head strap with a built-in battery adds substantial extra playtime and, as a bonus, balances the weight toward the back of your head for extra comfort. It's the most popular accessory among heavy users for exactly this reason.
Use the right charger
Charging speed matters as much as battery size. Meta's charging guide lists an 18 W adapter for the Quest 3 and Quest 3S and says adapters rated below that, or computer USB ports without Power Delivery, will charge more slowly. It also recommends using the included USB-C cable. Meta says a headset on the included adapter should fully charge in about two and a half hours.
Meta also notes that the headset may slow charging if it gets too hot while plugged in and in use, then finish charging once it has cooled. If your battery never seems to reach full while you play plugged in, that is the likely reason.
Read the status light
On the Quest 3 and 3S, Meta's status light guide says orange means charging, green means fully charged and red means the battery is dead. If the light never comes on while plugged in, try another wall socket and the original cable, and see our Quest not turning on guide.
